Free Services with every home inspection
FDS knows what defects can lurk out of sight from homeowners. Because of this, we include Certified Interior Thermal Inspections with every Home Inspection at no additional cost—that's right, FREE! Utilizing a thermal sensor for interior home inspections can locate issues not seen by the naked eye. This can reveal water leaks in pipes, water intrusion, lack of insulation, overheating wires and breakers, and much more.
When the thermal sensor detects an anomaly possibly caused by moisture, we will verify the findings with a noninvasive moisture meter if possible. This moisture meter confirms moisture under flooring, around water closets, and other areas prone to water damage hidden from the naked eye.
Another FREE service during our inspections is the use of a carbon monoxide (CO) and combustible gas detector. A combustible gas detector measures the concentration of certain gases in a specific area. Common types of combustible gases found in homes are propane and natural gas. When gas lines are accessible, we will check the pipes, connectors, and fittings for any signs of leaks.
CO is a toxic gas created when fuel is burned in the presence of low oxygen levels. CO is found in fumes from stoves, gas ranges, burning charcoal and wood, and vehicles warming up in garages and furnaces, to name a few. Carbon Monoxide has no smell and is known to cause rapid loss of consciousness. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least 430 people die, and approximately 50,000 people visit emergency departments for CO poisoning each year. If you have gas appliances in your home and start to experience unexplained chest pain, confusion, headaches, dizziness, weakness, nausea, or vomiting, this could potentially be due to CO poisoning. If you or someone you are with experiences any symptoms, get into fresh air immediately and call 911 or emergency medical help.
